WORLD CUP COMMEMORATIVE DVD
Thanks to the hard work of Tracy MacLeod, we were able to premiere the DVD at our Volunteer appreciation social on September 29.  Tracy is now tweaking a few things and making the copies.  We anticipate having it ready for distribution on October 15.  As announced at the social, anyone who volunteered at the World Cup will receive one complimentary copy as a token of our appreciation.  Anyone else wishing to purchase a copy can do so for $15.00.  We ask that even though copying the DVD is possible for most people, please support the production of the DVD by purchasing your copies.  We need to know if you want an R+ or R- DVD so that your copy will work on your DVD player.  If you are entitled to a free DVD for volunteering, or if you would like to purchase one, please let Sensei Janet know as soon as possible.  She can be reached via email or phone as above.  Tracy did an excellent job on the DVD.  We hope you enjoy watching it and that it brings back many fond memories of this event!

KARATE CHALLENGE & POOL PARTY
Our 10th annual Karate Challenge and Pool Party takes place on Saturday, November 10.  This is one of two major fundraisers held each year to support the Masters Fund.  As always, 20% of all profits is donated to a local charity.
For those of you who are new to our dojo, the Masters Fund was created to help subsidize the cost of bringing in high caliber Master instructors from around the world for events such as Spirit of the North, the World Cup and/or just for training purposes throughout the year.  Our students benefit by paying reduced fees for these events and by having the opportunity to train with these Masters right here in your own dojo!

The Karate Challenge is a circuit of 10 karate drills that each student rotates through.  Students are asked to go out and get sponsors – similar to a walk-a-thon concept.  Complete information packages will be available on Oct 15 which will give you lots of time to go out and talk to neighbors, family and friends who may wish to sponsor you.  With over 300 students in the dojo, this event can definitely be a financial success as well as a lot of fun.  Imagine if every student went out and got just $50 of sponsorship!!  All students who take part, as well as their families, are then invited to a pool party later in the day at Fountain Park Pool.   Mark this date on your calendar!

MAKEUP CLASSES
If you miss one of your classes, you are allowed to make them up at the St. Albert dojo.  You can go to our website at desakarate.com to find a class schedule.  Legal students also have the option to makeup missed classes at Cardiff at either 5:00 for white belts, or 5:50 for yellow belt and above.

TAX RECEIPTS FOR 2007
We are working on the tax receipts for the 2007 tax year.  We are doing receipts for children only as that is what the tax credit allows.  If any adults require a tax receipt, please let Sensei Janet know and she will ensure you get one.  Receipts will be ready Dec 1, 2007 for the year.  If you need it earlier, please let her know.

LADIES SELF DEFENSE COURSE
Moms, sisters and friends of our students who may not be involved in regular karate training may be interested in taking this 3 hour course which takes place on Sunday, October 28 from 1-4 pm at the dojo.  This program is very practical, so come prepared to be active.  Wear workout clothes and leave the jewelry at home!  Family members of our students are eligible for the family rate.  Registration forms are available at the front desk.

SPARRING GEAR AND CLASSES
A reminder to all students yellow belt and above to bring their sparring gear to each class.  If you don’t have gear, it can be purchased from Sensei Janet.  Helmets can also be ordered if you prefer to have your own rather than using our shared equipment. 

WORLD CUP T-SHIRTS
We are down to our last 6 World Cup T-shirts.  We have 3 Youth XL and 3 Adult Small.  These last few shirts are selling for rock bottom price of $15.00 each. 

PARKING REMINDER
If you are visiting the St. Albert dojo, please refrain from parking in the lot of the business to the west of our dojo.  Cars have been towed in the last few weeks, so it is not in your best interest to park there!  You can park in our lot, on the street in front, along the side of our building (3 parallel spots) and in the Jensen Roofing lot across the street if after 5:00 pm.
